Potlatch Day of Caring 2009

On Thursday August 27th a crew of 18 volunteers from Potlatch Corporation, including President/CEO Michael Covey, descended upon YFA Connections’ Crisis Residential Center.  The CRC is a shelter for at-risk and homeless youth located in a home on the South Hill that was built in 1904 – and Potlatch is a community minded organization filled with caring, compassionate and STRONG people willing to spend a HOT afternoon helping a local non-profit.  There were many trenches to be dug using picks and shovels, 5000 square feet of carpet that really needed cleaning, and the family counseling room that sorely needed a fresh coat of paint.  Lots of laughing, sweating, struggling with roots, rocks and metal pipes, cold water, cookies and mocking from the painters, culminated in a day that was truly inspiring for those of us at YFA who were on the receiving end of this generous donation of time, talent and sweat equity.  We are forever grateful to Potlatch Corporation for choosing YFA Connections as their United Way Day of Caring project for 2009.
